Betty married Louis J. Irelan in early 1940, and together, they had a son, Dennis. After Louis was killed during the invasion of Normandy in 1944, she raised her son on her own with the help of her parents, while she attended Central Michigan University. Betty then married Harold J. Holdorf in April of 1965 in Grand Blanc, MI.
Betty taught home economics in Grand Blanc for 30 years, and then retired to Florida where she returned to her love of education. After ten more years in the classroom, she retired again and became active in her Lakeland, Florida community caring for friends and neighbors. In 2006, she moved to Elk Rapids to be close to her family.
Betty was an avid golfer, loved to play bridge, and in her younger years was a regular deer hunter spending time with her father, George, and her son, Dennis, in the Northern Michigan woods. In the summers, trout fishing on the Ausable River was one of her favorite pastimes. Later in life, Betty traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, Mexico, Canada and the USA, including Hawaii and Alaska. She enjoyed many cruises and had a great curiosity and interest of the world.
